APC Alleges Planned Protest at UBA Branches, Urges Security Agencies to Intervene

The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has raised alarm over an alleged plan to stage coordinated protests at branches of United Bank for Africa across the state, claiming the action is being sponsored by elements within the state government — an allegation yet to be confirmed by authorities.

In a press statement dated February 16, 2026 and signed by the party’s Director of Media and Information, Mogaji Kola Olabisi, the party alleged that individuals described as “fake pensioners and political hoodlums” were being mobilized to protest over the payment of federal allocations to reinstated local government chairmen and councillors.

The party linked the allegation to the administration of Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, claiming that similar protest plans were previously shelved after information about them reportedly leaked to the public and security agencies. The state government has not issued an official response to the latest claims as of press time.

According to the statement, some persons were allegedly gathering in parts of Osogbo ahead of the proposed protest, which the party claimed could turn violent. The APC called on the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services, and other security bodies to act swiftly to prevent any breakdown of law and order.

“We appeal to security agencies to act with urgency to protect lives and property, especially banking facilities that may be targeted,” the statement said.

The party further argued that no group has justification to take the law into its hands, warning that any unrest arising from such protests could threaten public peace.

The statement also referenced past industrial actions involving the Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees in the state, saying residents remain mindful of prolonged local government disputes.

Efforts to get reactions from state government officials and security agencies were ongoing at the time of filing this report.
