INEC Sets 2027 Election Timetable Despite Electoral Act Delay

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has concluded preparations for the timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 general elections, even as the amended Electoral Act remains under consideration in the National Assembly.
INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, disclosed this on Wednesday during a meeting with Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) in Abuja. He confirmed that the commission has submitted its proposals to the National Assembly but warned that the timing of some activities could be affected by the eventual passage of the amended Act.
“For now, the commission has no option but to rely on the current Electoral Act for all planned activities,” Prof. Amupitan said, noting that adjustments will be made once the new law is enacted.
The commission’s move is seen as a step toward ensuring that preparations for the 2027 elections remain on track despite legislative delays.
Further details of the election schedule are expected to be released by INEC in the coming weeks.
