Ogun 2027: Four Cases Challenging Adeola’s Candidacy Discontinued

Four court cases challenging the candidacy of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Ogun State, Senator Solomon Adeola, have been discontinued by the respective litigants.

 

Adeola, who chairs the Senate Committee on Appropriations, is seeking the APC ticket ahead of the 2027 governorship election in the state.

 

His Media Adviser, Kayode Odunaro, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, saying the cases were voluntarily withdrawn as the governorship campaign commenced.

 

According to Odunaro, the first suit was withdrawn on August 24, 2026, while the remaining three were discontinued on September 7, 2026.

 

He said the cases were discontinued in open court, with the defendants and their counsel duly informed through notices of discontinuance.

 

The first case, No. FHC/AB/CS/87/26, was instituted by Professor Awolola Awoniyi under the Freedom of Information Act 2011 against Adeola, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), APC, Guardian Newspapers Limited and the Inspector-General of Police.

 

Another suit, No. FHC/ABJ/CS/844/26, was filed by officials and members of the Booth Party, Young Progressive Party (YPP), Action Democratic Party (ADP) and Labour Party (LP), with Adeola, INEC and APC listed as defendants.

 

The other two discontinued cases were suits Nos. FHC/ABJ/CS/989/2026 and FHC/ABJ/CS/884/26, instituted by some of the aforementioned party officials and members, alongside other individuals.

 

Odunaro said the litigants did not publicly state reasons for discontinuing the cases.

 

He, however, claimed that they had been convinced of the merit of Adeola’s candidacy and had decided to support his political ambition ahead of the 2027 election.

 

Adeola welcomed the development, according to his aide, saying the discontinuation of the cases would enable him to focus on his campaign and what he described as delivering the dividends of democracy to the people of Ogun State.

 

The senator, Odunaro added, would continue his mobilisation and campaign across the state ahead of the 2027 general election.
