Osun Election Violence: Victims Urged to Submit Cases for Relief

The Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Adewale Egbedun, has called on victims of election-related violence during the August 15 governorship election to submit their cases to the state’s Election Violence Relief Committee.

 

Egbedun, who chairs the committee, made the call on Thursday during its inaugural meeting in the state.

 

According to a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Olamide Tiamiyu, the committee is responsible for listening to victims, verifying their claims and ensuring that genuine victims receive appropriate relief.

 

The Speaker said the committee had already begun collating complaints from victims and assured them of the support of the Governor Ademola Adeleke-led administration.

 

He pledged that the committee would discharge its responsibilities fairly, transparently and without prejudice, adding that all submissions would be treated with seriousness.

 

The statement said victims who sustained injuries during the election period but were still receiving treatment should come forward, preferably through their relatives or representatives, to present their cases.

 

Egbedun said the committee would contact the hospitals where such victims were receiving treatment and ensure they received the necessary care.

 

He also assured victims, their families and the affected hospitals that the government remained committed to covering the approved cost of their treatment.

 

The Speaker commended the Adeleke Dynasty for its intervention on behalf of children who lost their parents or benefactors during the election violence.

 

He disclosed that the Dynasty, through the Springtime Development Foundation, had offered scholarships to children of those who lost their lives during the violence.

 

Egbedun described the initiative as a demonstration of compassion and commitment to the welfare of vulnerable families affected by the incidents.

 

He said providing education for the affected children was one of the best ways to honour those who lost their lives, while giving the children hope for a better future.

 

The Speaker assured the public that the committee would ensure a transparent and credible relief process, stressing that genuine victims would not be overlooked.
