Iran executes two men convicted of spying for Israel

Iran on Monday executed two men convicted of spying for Israel, according to the country’s judiciary, in the latest wave of executions linked to alleged espionage.

 

The judiciary’s news outlet, Mizan, identified the executed men as Omid Behzad and Pouria Safvat.

 

According to the report, the pair were convicted of espionage and collaboration with Israel’s foreign intelligence agency, Mossad.

 

“Omid Behzad and Pouria Safvat were hanged this morning for transmitting the coordinates of sensitive military and security sites to Mossad agents,” Mizan said.

 

The judiciary alleged that the two men provided information on military and security facilities, helping Israeli intelligence achieve its objectives during the conflict.

 

However, it did not disclose when they were arrested or tried.

 

Iran has increased executions since the outbreak of its conflict with Israel and the United States, with several convicts accused of spying for Israel.

 

The conflict reportedly began on February 28 with large-scale U.S.-Israeli strikes on Iran.

 

Iran remains one of the world’s leading executioners, ranking second after China, according to rights organisations, including Amnesty International.

 

According to Norway-based Iran Human Rights and the Paris-based group Together Against the Death Penalty (ECPM), Iranian authorities executed at least 1,639 people in 2025, the highest annual figure recorded since 1989.

 

Last week, Amnesty International condemned what it described as an escalation in executions after Iran announced the hanging of two men convicted over their involvement in anti-government protests.
