2027: Jonathan meets Tinubu behind closed doors at Aso Villa

Former President Goodluck Jonathan on Sunday held a closed-door meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The meeting reportedly ended without any official statement from either party.

The visit comes amid political developments ahead of the 2027 general election and renewed speculation over Jonathan’s possible return to active politics.

A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), led by Tanimu Turaki, had on May 30 claimed it submitted Jonathan’s name and credentials to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as its presidential candidate.

However, Jonathan’s name was absent from the final list of 19 presidential candidates released by INEC on Saturday.

The details of Sunday’s meeting were not disclosed, and neither the Presidency nor Jonathan’s camp had commented on the discussions as of the time of filing this report.

While the purpose of the meeting remains unknown, it comes against the backdrop of preparations for the 2027 general election.
