Osun Poll: Adeleke Urges Voters to Shun Intimidation, Vote Accord on August 15

Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has called on residents and eligible voters to disregard alleged threats of violence and turn out in large numbers to vote for the Accord Party in the August 15 governorship election, assuring them that adequate measures have been put in place to guarantee their safety.

The governor’s spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday in Osogbo, following Adeleke’s address to worshippers during a church service at Winners’ Chapel.

Addressing the congregation, Adeleke accused the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, Senator Adenigba Fadahunsi and Hon. Wole Oke of allegedly sponsoring violence in the state because, according to him, the people had rejected them.

“Because the people have rejected them, because voters have endorsed me and because defeat is staring them in the face, they have resorted to violence. We are not scared. Osun people are not afraid,” the governor said.

He urged voters not to be intimidated on election day, insisting that they should exercise their constitutional rights peacefully.

“On August 15, Osun people will show agents of violence that we are not cowards. Our people’s safety is guaranteed. Come out and vote. Punish those killing and maiming our people by voting against them on August 15.

“We are not scared of Osun APC. We have the capacity and the strength, but we care about the safety of our people. My primary responsibility is to protect the lives of our people. Come out and vote your conscience,” he added.

Adeleke further expressed confidence in securing a second term, maintaining that his administration’s performance across key sectors would earn him another mandate from the electorate.

According to him, the achievements recorded in workers’ welfare, healthcare, education, infrastructure, agriculture and other sectors have distinguished his administration and earned it widespread public support.

“I will be victorious against Mr. Oyebamiji and the Osun APC on August 15. We represent the light and we shall overcome darkness. Osun people are rising to defend their democratic rights to vote and be voted for,” he stated.

Earlier in his remarks, the Resident Pastor of Winners’ Chapel, Pastor Adekunle Oluseyi, declared August a month of divine reign and showers of blessings, offering prayers for Governor Adeleke and asking God to grant him wisdom in the administration of the affairs of Osun State.
