ADC Shifts Iwo Mega Rally Again, Accuses APC of Plotting Political Confrontation

 The African Democratic Congress, ADC, in Osun State has again postponed its planned mega rally in Iwo Federal Constituency, alleging that the All Progressives Congress, APC, deliberately fixed its own rally on the same date to provoke political tension.

The opposition party announced that its rally, earlier rescheduled for Thursday, July 30, 2026, will now hold on Monday, August 3, 2026, saying the decision was taken in the interest of peace, public safety and security.

In a statement signed by the Osun State Publicity Secretary of the party, Abosede Busayo Oluwaseun, the ADC recalled that it had initially fixed its rally for Tuesday, July 28, and duly notified the Nigeria Police, which approved the event.

According to the party, the APC subsequently fixed its own rally for the same day, prompting the ADC to voluntarily shift its programme to Thursday, July 30, to avoid any possible clash.

The party, however, alleged that the APC again announced a rally for the same Thursday date, describing the move as a calculated attempt to lure its members into a political confrontation.

“While every political party has a constitutional right to campaign, we consider this deliberate act of the APC as an attempt to lure us into an open confrontation, which is alien to our system,” the statement read.

The ADC maintained that it would not expose its supporters, residents of Iwo or security personnel to avoidable tension, stressing that preserving peace and stability remained more important than political activities.

It said the postponement reflected responsible leadership and its commitment to conducting issue-based campaigns throughout the state.

The party apologised to members and supporters for any inconvenience caused by the change in schedule and appreciated the people of Iwo for their patience and continued support.

It further declared that it would never sacrifice the lives and safety of its supporters for what it described as political showmanship, reaffirming its commitment to building a peaceful and prosperous Osun State through responsible leadership.

As of the time of filing this report, the APC had not responded to the allegations made by the ADC.
