INEC to conduct Osun governorship mock accreditation August 1

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has scheduled a mock accreditation exercise for Saturday, August 1, 2026, as part of preparations for the August 15 Osun State governorship election.

The commission said the exercise is aimed at testing its operational readiness and assessing the efficiency of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) ahead of the poll.

The announcement was contained in a statement signed by Ariyo Rufus, Head of Department, Voter Education, Publicity, Gender and Inclusivity, on behalf of the Osun State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Oluwatoyin Babalola.

According to INEC, the exercise will simulate Election Day accreditation procedures but will not involve voting.

The mock accreditation will be conducted in selected polling units across the state’s three senatorial districts.

In Osun Central Senatorial District, the exercise will take place in selected polling units in Osogbo, Olorunda, Ifelodun and Boripe local government areas.

For Osun East Senatorial District, selected polling units in Ilesa West, Ilesa East, Oriade and Obokun local government areas will participate.

In Osun West Senatorial District, the exercise will be held in Egbedore, Ede North, Ede South and Ejigbo local government areas.

INEC urged registered voters whose polling units have been selected to participate, noting that only holders of valid Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) will be accredited.

“This exercise is designed to test the functionality and efficiency of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) under conditions similar to Election Day. There shall be no voting during the exercise,” the commission stated.

The electoral body thanked residents of Osun State for their continued support and cooperation and reaffirmed its commitment to conducting a free, fair, credible, transparent and inclusive governorship election.
