Motorists, residents urge Abiodun to complete Mowe-Ofada Road

Motorists, commuters and residents have appealed to Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, to urgently complete the second phase of the Mowe-Ofada Road project, citing the hardship caused by the deteriorating condition of the road.

 

The residents said the uncompleted section has resulted in prolonged traffic delays, frequent vehicle breakdowns and rising transportation costs for commuters, workers and business owners.

 

Speaking in separate interviews on Saturday, they acknowledged the reconstruction of the first section of the road but urged the state government to extend work to the remaining stretch.

 

A commercial driver, Johnson Fadeyi, said the poor condition of the road had reduced the number of daily trips he could make while increasing vehicle maintenance costs.

 

“We face serious problems on this section of the road, especially when it rains. I want to appeal to the state governor to urgently find a lasting solution to the road,” he said.

 

A commuter, Bimpe Olaitan, said passengers endure unnecessary hardship, particularly during rush hours and the rainy season, because of the road’s condition.

 

A transporter, Kadiri Bala, noted that the damaged section had slowed the movement of goods and services, affecting businesses in Mowe, Ofada and neighbouring communities.

 

He urged the state government to prioritise the project, saying its completion would boost economic activities and improve connectivity across the area.

 

Also, a resident, Pastor Sunday Famuyiwa, called on the relevant authorities to carry out palliative repairs on the failed sections pending full reconstruction to reduce the suffering of road users.

 

Famuyiwa expressed confidence in the state government’s commitment to infrastructure development but appealed for swift action to complete the entire road project.

 

“Timely completion of the second section will enhance transportation, promote economic growth and improve the quality of life for thousands of residents using the corridor daily,” he said.
