Osun senator Fadeyi dumps APC, returns to PDP

Senator Olubiyi Fadeyi, representing Osun Central Senatorial District, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and returned to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

 

Fadeyi, who defected from the PDP to the APC ahead of the 2027 elections, failed to secure the APC’s senatorial ticket for Osun Central. The ticket was won by Rasheed Adegoke (SAN), a development that triggered protests from some of the senator’s supporters.

 

Unlike Fadeyi, other former PDP lawmakers who joined the APC, including Senators Francis Fadahunsi and members of the House of Representatives Wole Oke, Taofeek Ajilesoro and Sanya Omirin, secured the party’s tickets to seek re-election.

 

In his resignation letter, Fadeyi said he left the APC because the party failed to honour an agreement that he would emerge as the consensus candidate for the Osun Central Senatorial District.

 

He said he joined the APC in good faith to support President Bola Tinubu in his home state, based on assurances that he would receive the party’s ticket.

 

“I believed those understandings would be honoured and that the party would uphold the principles of fairness, equity, mutual respect and internal democracy,” he said.

 

The lawmaker alleged that the candidate selection process departed from the agreed consensus arrangement and lacked transparency, leading to a loss of confidence in the party’s leadership in Osun State.

 

Fadeyi also expressed disappointment that while other lawmakers who defected with him secured return tickets, he was denied the opportunity to seek another term.

 

Despite quitting the APC, the senator reaffirmed his support for President Bola Tinubu and the Renewed Hope Agenda.

 

“I wish to state unequivocally that I remain one hundred per cent committed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and supportive of the Renewed Hope Agenda. My decision is not in opposition to the President, his administration or his vision for Nigeria,” he said.

 

He added that his decision was guided by the need to uphold democratic principles and protect the mandate given to him by the people of Osun Central Senatorial District.
