Adeleke suspends NURTW activities in Osun motor parks, orders arrests

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has directed security agencies to immediately suspend all activities of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in motor parks across the state following rising security concerns.

 

The directive was issued after a meeting of the Osun State Security Council, chaired by the governor and attended by representatives of the Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services (DSS), Army, Air Force, Navy, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), NDLEA, Immigration Service, Nigerian Correctional Service, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), NAPTIP, Western Nigeria Security Network (Amotekun), and other top government officials.

 

In a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, the governor ordered the police and other security agencies to halt all NURTW operations in motor parks across the state.

 

The directive also suspends the collection of levies by the union in all motor parks.

 

“I hereby direct the Police and other security agents to stop all activities of the union in all our parks across the state. I’m not saying you should close the parks, but you should not allow anyone to operate in the parks in the name of the union. Anyone found contravening this order should be arrested for possible prosecution for disturbance of public peace,” Adeleke said.

 

The governor further directed security agencies to arrest anyone parading as an official or executive of the NURTW in any motor park in the state.

 

According to the statement, the security chiefs present at the meeting assured the governor of their commitment to enforcing the directive.

 

Adeleke also approved the immediate establishment of a Rapid Response Squad comprising personnel from various security agencies to ensure compliance with the order and maintain peace across the state.
