Isaac Fayose says ex-governor too influential for REA board chairmanship

Isaac Fayose has urged his elder brother and former Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, to decline his appointment as Chairman of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) Board, describing the position as below his political stature.

In a video posted on his Instagram page on Monday, Isaac reacted to the Presidency’s announcement appointing Ayo Fayose as REA board chairman alongside other members of federal agencies and commissions.

He argued that the former governor deserved a higher appointment, such as a ministerial or ambassadorial position, rather than the chairmanship of a federal agency.

Isaac also questioned the timing of the appointment, suggesting it came shortly after the recent visit of former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi to his residence, though he provided no evidence to support the claim.

He recalled that Ayo Fayose had previously stated he would return to private business after leaving office and would not seek further political appointments.

Congratulating his brother, Isaac nevertheless urged him to hand over the position to his son instead.

“Please, don’t use that kind of appointment. You are too big for that. You are a kingmaker,” he said.

He also reiterated his optimism about the opposition’s prospects in the 2027 general election, expressing confidence that a free and fair election would produce a different outcome.
