Odeyemi, a known political ally of former Kano State Governor, Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, tendered his resignation in a letter dated July 16, 2026, addressed to the National Chairman of the NNPP.
The brief resignation letter read: “I do hereby resign from your party. Delete my name and details from your register.” No reason was given for his decision.
Barely 24 hours after his resignation, Odeyemi was announced as the pioneer Acting Chairman (Protem) of the DLA in Osun State following his appointment by the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC).
His appointment, conveyed in a letter dated July 17, 2026, was signed by the National Chairman of the DLA, Mr. Samuel Memeh, who said the decision was approved by the party’s NEC in line with the provisions of its constitution.
According to the appointment letter, Odeyemi is expected to establish and strengthen the party’s structures across Osun State, uphold the constitution and ideology of the DLA, and report directly to the National Working Committee on the activities of the state chapter.
Reacting to his appointment, Odeyemi expressed appreciation to the national leadership of the party for the confidence reposed in him, pledging to build a disciplined and formidable political platform capable of providing credible leadership for the people of Osun State.
He also called on party members and stakeholders to unite behind the DLA project, assuring them of transparency, inclusiveness and commitment to the party’s ideals.
His defection comes months after he was re-elected as Osun State Chairman of the NNPP during the party’s state congress held in Osogbo, where a new executive committee was inaugurated for a fresh four-year tenure.
The congress, monitored by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and representatives of the party’s national leadership, returned Odeyemi alongside other state executives through affirmation.
The development is expected to reshape the political equation in Osun State as the newly registered Democratic Leadership Alliance begins efforts to establish its presence ahead of future electoral contests.
