US Strikes Iran as Tehran Threatens Regional Retaliation

The United States has launched fresh military strikes on Iran, prompting Tehran to threaten retaliatory attacks on regional infrastructure as tensions in the Middle East continue to escalate.

 

The US military said on Friday that it struck “dozens of Iranian military targets” in response to attacks on commercial shipping, following the collapse of a preliminary peace agreement reached last month.

 

Iran accused the US of targeting civilian infrastructure, including an airport and railway station, with authorities reporting that strikes on two bridges killed seven people.

 

A senior Iranian armed forces spokesperson warned that any further attacks on Iranian infrastructure would trigger retaliation across the region.

 

“If the Americans strike the infrastructure of the Islamic Republic, then all infrastructure across the region will become legitimate targets for Iran,” the spokesperson said.

 

Iran responded with missile attacks targeting US allies in the Gulf, including Qatar, Kuwait and Bahrain. Iranian state media also claimed strikes on a US airbase in Jordan, describing them as retaliation for an alleged American attack near a children’s cancer hospital in Ahvaz.

 

The renewed hostilities have intensified concerns over the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global oil shipping route. Iran has warned it will keep the waterway closed until what it described as US aggression ends, while Washington has resumed its maritime blockade of Iranian ports.

 

Despite the escalation, the White House said President Donald Trump remains open to diplomacy but insisted Iran would be held accountable for attacks on commercial shipping.

 

Since the latest round of fighting resumed, Iranian authorities say at least 30 people have been killed in US strikes.
