Osun APC commends police over arrest of suspects in alleged plot to kill campaign DG

The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has commended the Nigeria Police for foiling an alleged assassination attempt on the Director-General of its Governorship Campaign Council, Wole Oke.

The party’s reaction followed the parade of three suspects by the Osun State Police Command on Thursday over the alleged plot to assassinate Oke in Ipetu Ijesa on June 30.

The suspects were identified as Olalekan Oriyomi, Ayotunde Ikupolati, 44, and Femi Fakinleye, 31.

The Police Command said an English Beretta pistol loaded with four rounds of live ammunition was recovered from one of the suspects.

In a statement issued by its Director of Media and Publicity, Kola Olabisi, the APC praised the police for what it described as a proactive effort to prevent the attack and combat criminality in the state.

The party said it had confidence that the police would conduct a thorough investigation to identify and prosecute all those connected with the alleged assassination plot.

The APC also raised concerns about political violence ahead of the August 15, 2026, governorship election, questioning whether the election should be characterised by violence.

It further expressed concern that Governor Ademola Adeleke and the state chairman of the Accord Party, Victor Akande, had yet to publicly condemn the alleged assassination attempt.

The party urged the police to sustain the investigation and ensure that anyone found culpable is brought to justice.

It also encouraged its members to continue campaigning peacefully for its governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, ahead of the election.
