The call was contained in a statement issued on Friday by the Head of the Media and Publicity Committee of the Osun APC Governorship Campaign Council, Engr. Oluremi Omowaiye, who welcomed the Inspector-General’s visit to Osun and expressed confidence in his commitment to professionalism, justice and the rule of law.
The council urged the police hierarchy to conduct all criminal investigations in the state diligently, professionally and without fear or favour, stressing that justice for victims of violent crimes was essential to restoring public confidence in law enforcement.
It also appealed to the Inspector-General to ensure a thorough investigation into the alleged attempted assassination of the Director-General of the Osun APC Governorship Campaign Council, Hon. Oluwole Oke, and prosecute anyone found culpable in accordance with the law.
The APC campaign council further requested a comprehensive review of unresolved murder cases involving its members dating back to 2022, alleging that several party chieftains and supporters were killed in politically motivated attacks.
Among the cases cited were the killings of Tajudeen Rabiu, described as an APC chieftain and NURTW leader in Osogbo; Waheed, who was allegedly murdered in a gruesome manner; Muraina Olayiwola; Olalekan Ososondi; Ismail Dudu; Adeboye Ademoroti, popularly known as Gernanee; Saheed Oyegunju; Hon. Remi Abass; Akeem of Otan Ayegbaju; and Kazeem Oyebamiji, also known as Mosquito.
The council alleged that some of the killings were linked to individuals identified as Olalekan Oyeyemi, popularly known as Emir Ajagungbade; Nurudeen Wakili, also known as Nurudeen Alawonle; Solomon Adefioye, alias Solo Iwara; and Jide Joda, maintaining that some of the suspects had already been declared wanted by the police.
It also called for a thorough investigation into allegations linking Senator Lere Oyewumi to the killings of Saheed Oyegunju and Hon. Remi Abass, urging investigators to follow all credible evidence without interference.
The council further requested the police to investigate allegations that the senator handed over a firearm allegedly recovered from a security aide attached to the late Remi Abass and claims that senior police officers were allegedly induced to compromise the investigation into the murder. No evidence was provided in the statement to substantiate the allegations, and the senator’s response was not included.
The APC campaign council urged the Inspector-General to ensure that all wanted suspects are apprehended and prosecuted where sufficient evidence exists, while calling for justice for all victims irrespective of political affiliation.
Reaffirming its commitment to peace, democracy and the rule of law, the council appealed to its members and supporters to remain law-abiding and continue to cooperate with security agencies in the discharge of their constitutional responsibilities.
