Adeleke, Bashiru Advocate Politics Without Bitterness in Osun

Osun State Governor, and the National Secretary of the , , have called on politicians to embrace politics without bitterness, urging political actors to prioritise peace, unity and good governance over hostility and violence.

The Governor’s Spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday in Osogbo after Governor Adeleke paid a condolence visit to Senator Bashiru over the death of his mother.

During the visit, Governor Adeleke, who was accompanied by the Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, , and members of the State Executive Council, said politics should be conducted within the bounds of peace, security and respect for democratic values.

According to the governor, politics should never become a do-or-die affair, stressing that violence and bloodshed have no place in a democratic society. He urged politicians to focus on issue-based campaigns and avoid allowing political differences to destroy family and personal relationships.

Adeleke noted that many politicians had belonged to different political parties at various times, insisting that such differences should not make them enemies. He added that his visit was to identify with Senator Bashiru and his family during their period of mourning.

Responding, Bashiru appreciated the governor’s visit, describing it as a demonstration of maturity, tolerance and mutual respect across political divides. He said political affiliation should never override shared humanity and longstanding relationships.

The APC National Secretary also recalled similar gestures of goodwill across party lines in the past, maintaining that politicians must continue to promote peaceful coexistence and national unity regardless of their political differences.
