Trump shared a rendering of the passport on his Truth Social platform on Friday with the caption: “The U.S.A.’s New Passport, which says, ‘Welcome, but be good!'”
The design features a portrait of the president leaning on his desk alongside his signature, with the text of the US Declaration of Independence in the background. The opposite page displays an illustration of the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776 and the inscription, “United States of America 250.”
The White House also released the image, describing it as the “Patriot Passport.”
The US State Department had earlier announced plans to issue a commemorative passport with custom artwork from July 6 but had not officially confirmed the final design at the time of publication.
According to a State Department official, the special passports will be available only through in-person appointments in Washington and in limited quantities.
The commemorative passport is the latest in a series of moves by Trump to place his personal imprint on government institutions. His administration has also announced plans to place his signature on the one-dollar bill, while banners bearing his image have appeared outside several government buildings.
If issued as planned, Trump will become the first sitting US president to have his image featured in an official American passport.
