The spokesperson for the ADC-GCC, Hon. Nurein Adebisi, said the peaceful reception in Ejigbo demonstrated that political campaigns could be conducted without violence, intimidation, harassment or disruption of opposition activities.
“Ejigbo has shown the way. The reception Mr. Oyebamiji received yesterday tells the real story of how things should be. People came out in peace, with drums and dignity, not with guns, stones or insults,” Adebisi said in a statement issued on Wednesday.
The council said the atmosphere of mutual respect displayed in Ejigbo should become the standard for political engagement across the state as political parties intensify campaigns ahead of the poll.
According to the ADC-GCC, the peaceful outing in Ejigbo has sent a message that Osun residents are prepared for issue-based politics rather than campaigns driven by thuggery, violence and intimidation.
The group, therefore, challenged Oyebamiji to extend the same level of courtesy to other political parties, particularly the African Democratic Congress, ADC, whenever its candidate and campaign team visit Ikire and other parts of the state.
It warned against harassment of opposition supporters, blockage of campaign venues, political thuggery and any form of intimidation, insisting that the contest should be based on ideas and programmes.
“Allow the ADC candidate and team the same peaceful atmosphere anytime they visit Ikire. No harassment, no blocked venues, no political thuggery and no intimidation. Let it be ideas versus ideas,” the statement added.
The council maintained that democracy would thrive when political leaders protect the rights of opponents to campaign freely and speak to the electorate without fear.
It added that Ejigbo should not be treated as an isolated example, but as a model for peaceful political conduct throughout the state.
“Let Ejigbo be the standard, not the exception,” Adebisi said.
The statement was dated June 25, 2026.
