Ede truck tragedy: Imole Campaign Council knocks APC candidate, DG over ‘insensitive conduct’

The Imole Campaign Council, TICC, has condoled with the families of members of the All Progressives Congress, APC, who were reportedly involved in a fatal truck accident in Ede, Osun State, while heading for the party’s rally on Wednesday.

The spokesperson for the council, Mr. Pelumi Olajengbesi, Esq., said the council was deeply saddened by the incident, which reportedly claimed a life and left several other APC supporters in critical condition.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Olajengbesi said the truck was said to have rammed into a procession of APC members after allegedly losing its brakes.

He said: “The Imole Campaign Council receives with profound sadness news of a truck ramming into a procession of members of the All Progressives Congress in anticipation of its rally billed for Ede today.

“Our campaign council is visibly shaken by reports that the accident involving a truck which lost its brakes recorded a fatality, while several other victims are in critical condition and receiving treatment at the hospital.”

The council extended its condolences to the family of the deceased and prayed for the speedy recovery of those receiving treatment.

According to the statement, the tragedy should serve as a reminder that political actors must place humanity above party interests, particularly at a time when families are grieving.

“We are bound by shared humanity to stand in solidarity with our fellow citizens affected by this tragedy, offering our comfort to ease the burden of grief,” Olajengbesi said.

“It is our prayer to God to forestall such occurrence and protect everyone, irrespective of party affiliations before and after the governorship poll.”

However, the TICC criticised the AMBO Campaign Council and the APC governorship candidate, Mr. Bola Oyebamiji, over what it described as their failure to publicly mourn the deceased and sympathise with the injured victims.

The council alleged that Oyebamiji continued political activities, including the inauguration of canvassers, in the same local government where the accident occurred.

It also accused the APC Campaign Director-General, Mr. Oluwole Oke, of showing no sympathy over the reported death of an Accord member, Rogba Ajayi, in Esa-Oke.

The council said it was insensitive for political leaders to continue singing party slogans and engaging in campaign celebrations while families of their supporters were mourning.

It added that such conduct amounted to “a reckless display of cruelty and inhumanity,” insisting that leaders seeking public office must demonstrate compassion and responsibility in moments of tragedy.
