World Cup 2026: Algeria come from behind to beat Jordan 2-1

Algeria boosted their hopes of reaching the knockout stage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup after coming from behind to defeat tournament debutants Jordan 2-1 in a Group J match on Monday.

Jordan took the lead through Nizar Al-Rashdan, but Amine Gouiri restored parity before Nadhir Benbouali netted the winning goal in the 82nd minute in Santa Clara.

The victory keeps Algeria’s qualification hopes alive ahead of their final group game against Austria in Kansas City on Saturday.

Earlier on Monday, Argentina defeated Austria 2-0 to move to the top of Group J with six points.

Austria and Algeria are tied on three points each, setting up a decisive final group fixture between the two sides.

Jordan, who are making their first appearance at the World Cup, have been eliminated from the competition and will conclude their campaign against Argentina in Arlington, Texas, on Saturday.
