In a statement signed by Mallam Olawale Rasheed, the governor’s spokesperson, Adeleke said: “Osun is not afraid of brigandry. Those behind this barbaric act must be arrested and prosecuted. We will not allow impunity to stand.”
The governor, who visited the bereaved family and the Osun State Teaching Hospital where a survivor of the attack is receiving treatment, expressed deep sorrow over the incident, describing it as “a senseless and politically motivated killing.”
He alleged that the attack was carried out by armed political thugs operating with a branded vehicle, warning that such violence would not deter his administration or the people of the state.
“We cannot be silenced through bloodshed. Osun people will continue to stand firm in defence of democracy,” Adeleke said.
He further accused suspected opposition elements of escalating attacks across communities, insisting that security agencies must act decisively to prevent further breakdown of law and order.
A survivor of the attack, John Mathew, who is receiving treatment in hospital, was also visited by the governor, who pledged government support for victims and their families.
The deputy governor, Prince Kola Adewusi, also condemned the killing, calling for divine justice over those behind the act.
The Accord Party leadership in Irepodun Local Government, led by its chairman, Sikiru Ajibade, alleged that repeated attacks had been reported to security agencies without adequate response, claiming the incident could have been prevented.
The governor was accompanied on the visit by top government officials including the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Adewale Egbedun, and other senior aides.
