The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, who disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday in Osogbo, said the directive was based on credible intelligence and emerging security concerns within the council area.
According to him, “The Commissioner of Police, Osun State Command, advises all political parties to postpone their planned political gatherings, rallies, campaigns, processions and all other political-related activities scheduled to hold on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, within Oriade Local Government Area to a new date.”
Ojelabi explained that the decision became necessary following the inability of the command to secure the cooperation of some political stakeholders despite efforts to promote peaceful coexistence among parties ahead of the planned activities.
He noted that attempts by the police to convene a peace meeting involving the concerned political parties ended in a deadlock, making the precautionary measure imperative to forestall any breakdown of law and order.
The police spokesperson stressed that the move was aimed at protecting lives and property, maintaining public order and ensuring that residents of the area go about their lawful activities without fear.
He urged political parties, candidates, supporters and members of the public to comply with the advisory in the interest of peace and security.
The command reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring a peaceful and secure environment across the state and called on residents to remain law-abiding and cooperate with security agencies.
