Ogun dismisses rumours of terrorist invasion, assures residents of safety

The Ogun State Government has dismissed reports alleging that Fulani herdsmen, Boko Haram insurgents and other terrorist groups are planning to invade the state, describing the claims as false and unfounded.

 

In a statement issued by the Special Adviser on Media and Strategy to Governor Dapo Abiodun, Kayode Akinmade, the government said security intelligence and reports from relevant agencies indicate that Ogun State remains safe and secure.

 

Akinmade urged residents not to be distracted by misinformation designed to create panic, stressing that there is no imminent security threat within the state.

 

“The true situation is that there is no imminent threat of invasion by any terrorist group. Security agencies and operatives across the state are on high alert, and adequate measures have already been put in place to checkmate any individual or group seeking to foment trouble or undermine public order,” he said.

 

He noted that some individuals were exploiting security challenges in other parts of the country to spread fear among Ogun residents, describing the action as irresponsible and capable of causing unnecessary anxiety.

 

The government disclosed that some persons linked to the circulation of the false reports have been arrested and are being prosecuted.

 

“Security agencies have identified and apprehended some of the individuals responsible for spreading these false narratives. They are currently facing prosecution, and this should serve as a clear warning to anyone seeking to deliberately spread misinformation, create panic, or disrupt public peace,” Akinmade stated.

 

He said Ogun State continues to benefit from strong collaboration among security agencies, local authorities, traditional institutions and community stakeholders, which has enhanced intelligence gathering and rapid response to security concerns.

 

According to him, the state government is also working with security agencies to strengthen state-specific security measures through improved intelligence sharing, community participation and early warning systems.

 

Akinmade added that Governor Abiodun has continued to prioritise the security of lives and property through investments in security infrastructure, logistical support and technology-driven surveillance initiatives.

 

The government advised residents to rely on official communication channels and recognised security agencies for information, warning against the spread of unverified reports on social media.

 

It also encouraged members of the public to cooperate with security agencies by providing credible information, stressing that security remains a collective responsibility.

 

The state government assured residents that Ogun remains safe, secure and open for lawful business and socio-economic activities.
