Tinubu Appoints 39-Year-Old Professor Segun Aina as New JAMB Registrar

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Professor Segun Aina as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, succeeding Professor Is-haq Oloyede whose second tenure will expire on July 31, 2026.

Aina, a renowned Computer Engineering scholar and digital systems expert, is set to become the youngest registrar in the history of the examination body.

The 39-year-old academic, who will clock 40 in July, is currently a Professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University. He is widely recognised for his contributions to examination technology, institutional reforms, and digital infrastructure development across Nigeria’s education sector.

Professor Aina holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent, as well as a Master’s degree in Internet Computing and Network Security and a PhD in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University. He also attended the Senior Management Programme at Lagos Business School.

His relationship with JAMB reportedly dates back to his National Youth Service period, where he gained firsthand experience in the operations of the admissions body — an exposure said to have influenced his passion for examination reforms and digital transformation.

With over 15 years of professional experience, Aina has consulted for major examination agencies including National Examinations Council and National Business and Technical Examinations Board, alongside several state ministries of education on ICT systems, examination integrity, and digital process optimisation.

He is also affiliated with notable professional bodies such as the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria, Nigerian Society of Engineers, Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, and the Institution of Engineering and Technology.

The Presidency expressed confidence that the new registrar would leverage his expertise and innovative ideas to consolidate on the reforms and achievements recorded under Oloyede’s leadership at JAMB.
