PFN declares nationwide fasting, prayers over insecurity, 2027 elections

The Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) has announced a three-day nationwide fasting and prayer programme over worsening insecurity, bloodshed, economic hardship and concerns surrounding Nigeria’s political future ahead of the 2027 general elections.

 

The programme is scheduled to hold from May 22 to May 24, 2026.

 

PFN said the initiative is aimed at seeking divine intervention for peace, national healing, economic recovery, stability and credible elections amid rising violence and uncertainty across the country.

 

The decision was contained in a statement issued by the National Publicity Secretary of the Fellowship, Sylvanus Ukafia, following a meeting of the PFN National Executive Council.

 

According to the statement, the council arrived at the decision after extensive deliberations and prayers over the state of the nation and the role of the Church at a critical time in Nigeria’s history.

 

“This is a defining moment for the Church to rise in unity and intercession for the nation,” the Fellowship stated.

 

PFN expressed concern over continued attacks on communities and places of worship, alongside the growing economic hardship affecting millions of Nigerians.

 

“We believe that as the Church unites in prayer, God will intervene in the affairs of our nation and grant Nigeria peace, healing, stability, and a new season of hope,” it said.

 

The Fellowship noted that the programme would coincide with the observance of Global Pentecost Day and would be anchored on the biblical instruction in 2 Chronicles 7:14, which calls on believers to humble themselves, pray, seek God’s face and turn from wrongdoing for healing of the land.

 

PFN called on churches, pastors, Christian leaders, workers, youths, women and believers across the country to participate actively in the exercise.

 

It explained that Friday, May 22, and Saturday, May 23, would be observed through fasting and prayers in homes, churches and local assemblies nationwide.

 

The programme will culminate on Sunday, May 24, with Christians gathering at designated venues across states for a united national prayer assembly to mark Global Pentecost Day.

 

According to the Fellowship, prayer sessions during the programme would focus on divine intervention for Nigeria, restoration of peace and security, an end to terrorism and criminality, economic relief for citizens, unity among leaders, peaceful elections and the emergence of patriotic and God-fearing leaders.

 

PFN added that Nigeria remains a country with enormous potential and urged citizens, particularly Christians, to stand together in faith and unity during the period.
