APC reschedules National Assembly primaries in Zamfara

The All Progressives Congress, APC, has rescheduled its National Assembly primary elections in Zamfara State ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The party announced the adjustment in a statement issued on Saturday by its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka.

According to the statement, the House of Representatives primary election will now hold on Monday, May 18, 2026, while the Senate primary has been fixed for Tuesday, May 19, 2026.

The APC added that the State House of Assembly primary would still hold on Wednesday, May 20, while the governorship primary remains scheduled for Thursday, May 21, 2026.

The party also confirmed that its presidential primary election would still take place on Monday, May 23, 2026.

The statement further outlined dates for appeals arising from the various primaries in the state.

Appeals from the House of Representatives primary are scheduled for Tuesday, May 19, while Senate primary appeals will hold on Wednesday, May 20.

Appeals from the State House of Assembly primary are fixed for Thursday, May 21, while governorship primary appeals will hold on Friday, May 22, 2026.

The APC, however, did not state the reason for the latest rescheduling.

Recall that the party’s national leadership had earlier postponed its House of Representatives primaries nationwide by one day, from Friday, May 15, to Saturday, May 16, citing logistical reasons.

Ahead of the primaries, tensions reportedly erupted across several states, leading to protests, failed consensus arrangements and allegations of candidate imposition within the ruling party.

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, had directed political parties to conclude all primaries and resolve related disputes between April 23 and May 30, 2026, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
