Nollywood star Alex Ekubo dies at 40

A wave of confusion spread across social media after claims emerged alleging the death of Nollywood actor Alex Ekubo, with several industry colleagues reportedly reacting to the rumour online.

Funke Akindele, Bolanle Ninalowo, and Godwin Nnadiekwe were said to have shared emotional tributes on social media, expressing shock and mourning what they described as the passing of a close associate.

Akindele, in an Instagram story, wrote: “Rest in peace, Alex… I tried to reach out to see you one more time… I will always remember and cherish the good times we shared.”

Ninalowo also reportedly reacted, saying: “Rest on, Alex. May God heal your family and us all.”

Nnadiekwe was also quoted expressing disbelief over the news, describing Ekubo as a rare soul in Nollywood.

However, there has been no official confirmation from the actor’s family or verified representatives regarding the alleged death as of the time of filing this report.

Ekubo had recently trended online following concerns about his health and appearance after a video resurfaced showing him interacting with children while appearing noticeably slimmer.

The actor had been largely absent from social media since late 2024, sparking repeated speculation about his wellbeing.

In previous public comments, Ekubo had addressed curiosity about his personal life, particularly marriage, stating that he was focused on building his career and financial stability.

The situation continues to generate mixed reactions online, with fans awaiting clarification from official sources regarding the true state of the actor.
