Speaking through its Co-Chairman (Print), Media and Publicity Committee, Mogaji Kola Olabisi, the council said: “We have watched with great disappointment how Hon. Bamidele Salam has been going about threatening fire and brimstone over the governorship ambition in Osun State. We urge him to desist from inflammatory politics that could threaten the peace of the state.”
The council alleged that Salam, whom it linked to the Accord Party’s governorship campaign in the state, had been issuing warnings over the re-election bid of the incumbent governor, Ademola Adeleke, describing such actions as unnecessary and capable of heating up the polity.
It further maintained that the APC candidate, Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, remained the most prepared contender for the governorship race, adding that his campaign was anchored on “competence and performance-driven governance” compared to what it termed the shortcomings of the current administration.
The statement also took a swipe at the opposition camp, accusing it of resorting to intimidation and political rhetoric instead of issue-based campaigning, while insisting that Osun residents would make their choice based on governance records and not threats.
Reiterating its position, the council urged all political actors to maintain decorum and allow the electoral process to proceed without violence or incitement, stressing that Osun State remained peaceful and would continue to be so despite political tensions ahead of the poll.
