Kelly-George, reportedly an ally of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has obtained the party’s Expression of Interest and Nomination forms, formally signalling his intention to contest for the state’s top seat.
His entry further intensifies competition within the APC, where incumbent Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the party’s 2023 governorship candidate, Tonye Cole, have also picked up nomination forms.
In a related development, Senator Ipalibo Banigo, who represents Rivers West Senatorial District, has also purchased her Expression of Interest and Nomination forms to seek re-election into the Senate in 2027.
Meanwhile, former Rivers State PDP chairman, Felix Obuah, has also joined the senatorial race in the same district, setting up what is expected to be a keen contest.
The latest political realignments come amid increasing manoeuvring within Rivers politics as aspirants position themselves ahead of the next general elections.
