Amnesty raises alarm over killing of 29 in Adamawa Boko Haram attack

Amnesty International has condemned the killing of at least 29 people following an attack by Boko Haram insurgents on Guyaku community in Gombi Local Government Area of Adamawa State.

The attack, which occurred on Sunday, left several residents dead, while others were reported missing as villagers fled the area in panic.

In a statement posted on its official X handle on Monday, the rights group described the assault as “vicious,” expressing concern over the continued targeting of civilians in the region.

According to Amnesty International, the attackers stormed the community and shot residents at close range, leaving bodies scattered across the village.

“Older people who could not flee were slaughtered inside their homes,” the organisation said.

It added that the assailants also razed properties, including churches, classrooms and motorcycles, further compounding the destruction.

The group noted that beyond killings, Boko Haram fighters continue to abduct women and girls and loot communities, worsening the humanitarian situation.

Amnesty warned that the recurring attacks highlight gaps in civilian protection and called for urgent action.

“The fact that such atrocities remain commonplace shows that more needs to be done to protect civilians and ensure that families of victims receive reparation and justice,” the statement said.
