Sanwo-Olu Hosts Banquet for IGP Disu, Hails Him as ‘Son of Lagos’

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Saturday night hosted a state banquet in honour of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, describing him as a distinguished son of the state.

The event, held at the State House in Marina, was attended by top government officials, security chiefs, community leaders and other dignitaries.

In a statement shared via his X handle on Sunday, the governor celebrated Disu’s rise through the ranks, attributing his success to discipline and a strong commitment to service.

“There is something inspiring about seeing one of ours rise through the ranks with discipline and a clear commitment to service,” Sanwo-Olu said.

He noted that the police chief’s early life and education in Lagos played a defining role in shaping his values and career.

“Long before the world knew him as IGP, Lagos knew him. The streets of this city shaped him. The lecture halls of Lagos State University refined him, and the communities of Lagos Island taught him early lessons about responsibility and service,” he added.

Sanwo-Olu also recalled Disu’s tenure as Commander of the Rapid Response Squad in Lagos, where he said the police chief strengthened security operations and built public trust.

“From his time leading the Rapid Response Squad to his national assignments, he has consistently shown what dedication and excellence look like,” the governor said.

He described Disu’s journey as a reflection of integrity and hard work, adding that Lagos remains proud of his achievements.

“His journey reminds us that greatness comes from hard work, integrity and service. Lagos does not just raise dreamers—we raise leaders,” he said.

Born on April 13, 1966, on Lagos Island, Disu attended St. Gregory’s College, Lagos, and later earned a degree in English Education from Lagos State University in 1990.

He was appointed Inspector-General of Police on February 24, following the resignation of his predecessor, Kayode Egbetokun.
