Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has nominated Murtala Garo as the new Deputy Governor and forwarded his name to the State House of Assembly for screening and confirmation.
The nomination was disclosed in a statement issued late Tuesday by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mustapha Muhammad.
According to the statement, the move is in line with Section 191(3) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), which empowers a governor to appoint a deputy where a vacancy exists.
“The nomination is in line with Section 191(3) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended)… Following wide consultations with key stakeholders, the Governor has requested the Assembly to grant the necessary approval,” the statement read.
The deputy governorship position became vacant following the resignation of Abdussalam Gwarzo on March 27, 2026.
