In a statement released on Wednesday, ASUU branches at Sokoto State University and Shehu Shagari University of Education said members have endured prolonged neglect despite repeated appeals to the state government.
The statement, jointly signed by ASUU-SSU Chairperson Dr Bello Musa and his SSUE counterpart Dr Shamsu Kabiru, noted that unresolved welfare issues are already straining industrial harmony and could soon cripple teaching and research if urgent action is not taken.
According to the union, key demands include the immediate implementation of the 2025 FGN-ASUU agreement—particularly the payment of peculiar allowances for teaching and research—which it said has already commenced in federal universities.
ASUU also demanded the payment of Earned Academic Allowances (EAA) owed to lecturers for the 2022/2023 and 2023/2024 academic sessions, stressing that staff in state institutions should not be excluded from nationally negotiated salary structures.
The union warned that continued inaction could deepen dissatisfaction among lecturers and disrupt the academic calendar across affected institutions.
