An aspirant for the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket in Osun West Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 general elections, Akin Ogunbiyi, has alleged that political enemies are behind the circulation of a viral video aimed at creating disaffection between him and key leaders of the party.
Ogunbiyi, in a statement issued in Osogbo on Tuesday, dismissed the video as manipulated, insisting that it was deliberately edited to misrepresent his remarks and sow discord within the APC.
The controversy followed the emergence of a video in which Ogunbiyi was said to have made commentst perceived as critical of the party and some of its leaders, including Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
In the clip, he allegedly claimed that President Tinubu preferred Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, to defect to the APC, a move he said was resisted by the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola.
However, Ogunbiyi clarified that the video did not reflect the full context of his remarks, stressing that his relationship with President Tinubu, Oyetola and the APC governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, remains cordial.
He said: “Further findings revealed that the sponsors of this campaign of calumny deliberately manipulated the content to create a wedge between me and President Tinubu, as well as other respected leaders of our party.”
The APC chieftain noted that many party members who initially expressed concern had reconsidered their positions after viewing the complete version of the recording.
Describing the act as “mischievous and baseless,” Ogunbiyi maintained that the attempt to discredit him had failed, adding that he remains committed to the party’s unity and electoral success.
He reaffirmed his support for President Tinubu’s re-election bid and pledged to work for the victory of the APC in the forthcoming Osun governorship election.
