APC Urged to Showcase Oyetola’s Record, Not “Borrowed Legacies” — Osun ADC New Media

The Osun State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) New Media has urged the All Progressives Congress (APC) to focus its political campaign on the achievements of former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola during his administration, rather than what it described as reliance on “borrowed legacies” from previous governments.

In a statement released on Tuesday, signed by Akande Abimbola, Publicity Secretary of Osun ADC New Media, the group argued that political accountability demands that every administration be assessed strictly on its own performance.

According to the statement, if the Oyetola administration made meaningful impact while in office, the APC should confidently present such records to the electorate instead of referencing projects that predated the government.

“The people of Osun deserve to see what was actually achieved during the tenure of former Governor Gboyega Oyetola, not a recycling of initiatives that existed before his administration,” the group said.

The ADC New Media also criticised what it described as the inability of the Oyetola-led government to sustain certain developmental programmes inherited from the administration of former Governor Rauf Aregbesola, alleging inconsistencies in policy continuity.

“It is contradictory for an administration that reportedly failed to sustain inherited projects to later adopt the same initiatives for campaign purposes. This raises concerns about consistency in governance and political messaging,” the statement added.

The group cautioned against what it called selective recollection of past programmes for electoral advantage, stressing that governance should be judged on continuity, delivery, and impact rather than political convenience.

“You cannot discard a legacy in office and later revive it during campaigns. Osun people deserve continuity in governance, not convenience,” it stated.

It further advised residents of the state to be cautious of what it described as inducement-based empowerment schemes, warning against accepting short-term financial offers in place of long-term development.

“Leadership should be assessed by sustainable policies, not temporary financial gestures. Citizens must remain vigilant and prioritise their long-term welfare,” the group said.

The ADC New Media maintained that Osun State requires leadership that is transparent, accountable, and performance-driven, adding that voters should critically evaluate the records of political actors ahead of future elections.

“The bottom line is simple: let every administration present its own record, and allow the people to decide,” the statement concluded.
