You Are Extorting Students’ – APC Chieftain Blasts Adeleke Government Over IGR Claims

A former Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs in Osun State, Prince Adebayo Adeleke, has accused the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke of allegedly relying heavily on school fees as a major source of Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), a situation he described as “extortion of students.”

The All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain made the allegation while appearing on a private television programme in Osogbo, the state capital.

According to him, the state’s education sector has been poorly managed, insisting that the government’s revenue drive is disproportionately dependent on students’ payments.

“The education system is so bad. You say you are generating IGR, that means you are extorting the students. Ninety per cent of the IGR generated in Osun State is from the payment of school fees,” he alleged.

Prince Adeleke further criticised the government’s performance in the agricultural sector, claiming that resources meant for farmers had been mismanaged.

He alleged that farmers in the state had limited or no access to tractors reportedly procured by the government.

“I was addressing some farmers two days ago and the issue of tractors came up and they told me categorically that they don’t even have access to the 31 tractors out of the 114 paid for. Governor Adeleke claimed that they spent ₦2 billion on seedlings but these farmers said it is not true,” he said.

The APC chieftain also accused the government of inconsistency in its figures regarding tractor procurement.

“I, as a citizen of Osun, know that Governor Adeleke lied when he said he purchased 114 tractors. His Commissioner for Information went on a radio programme and said it was 71. After that, the chairman of SUBEB went to another radio programme and said it was 31,” he alleged.

Efforts to get the reaction of the governor’s spokesperson proved abortive as of the time of filing this report.

The allegations come amid ongoing political tension between the opposition APC and the ruling administration in Osun State over governance performance and public sector management.
