In a statement issued on Saturday, a factional chairman, Femi Soluade, insisted that the party remains “united, structured and committed to democratic principles,” even as rival groups lay claim to the leadership of the party in the state.
Patriotic Insights News gathered that Soluade, during a state executive congress chaired by Moshood Salvador at the party secretariat, was returned as chairman alongside Babatunde Adedeji as deputy chairman, Agbebiyi Olusoji as secretary, and other members of the State Executive Committee.
The swearing-in ceremony was administered by the state legal adviser, Femi Aina, who declared that the new leadership would consolidate the party’s presence across all levels in Ogun State.
However, a parallel congress reportedly held at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library also produced a different set of executives, with Emmanuel Famojuro emerging as chairman under what was described as the “David Mark-led faction.”
At the congress, chaired by Olatunji Soyinka, a harmonised list of executives was presented, which organisers said reflected broad consensus among party stakeholders.
Reacting sharply, Soluade dismissed the rival congress as illegal, describing it as a “kangaroo arrangement” that violated the party’s constitutional provisions and failed to follow due electoral processes.
He maintained that the outcome of the parallel exercise was “null, void and of no effect whatsoever.”
Meanwhile, the party has called on aggrieved members to sheath their swords and support the recognised leadership in the interest of unity and progress within the state chapter.
