Last PDP lawmaker defects in Gombe as APC takes full control of Assembly

The last remaining member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Gombe State House of Assembly, Yakubu Daniel, has defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), leaving the opposition without representation in the legislature.

Daniel, who represents Billiri East Constituency, formally joined the APC on Saturday, a move that gives the ruling party full control of all 24 seats in the Assembly.

Receiving the lawmaker, Governor Muhammadu Yahaya described the defection as a major political milestone and a vote of confidence in his administration.

“This is a strong vote of confidence in our leadership, our policies and our inclusive style of governance. For the last remaining opposition member in the Assembly to take this step speaks volumes about the direction we are taking in Gombe State,” Yahaya said.

The governor attributed the growing dominance of the APC in the state to what he described as transparency, fairness and effective service delivery, adding that the party remains open to new members.

“Our doors remain open to all who are willing to join us in building a better Gombe. The APC believes in unity, justice and equal opportunity,” he added.

Daniel’s defection follows a wave of earlier crossovers by opposition lawmakers, effectively ending PDP’s presence in the Assembly and consolidating APC’s grip on the state’s political structure.
