JAMB dismisses fake notice on 2026 UTME postponement

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has dismissed a circulating press release claiming that the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) has been postponed, describing it as false and malicious.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the board urged candidates and the general public to disregard the notice, stressing that it did not originate from the examination body.

“Our attention has been drawn to the malicious press release stating that the 2026 UTME has been postponed. The general public, particularly candidates, are informed that the release is fake and did not emanate from us. Kindly disregard it. All activities on the 2026 UTME continue as scheduled,” the statement read.

JAMB had earlier announced that the main UTME would hold from April 16 to April 25, 2026.

The clarification follows the conduct of the mock UTME on March 28, which recorded technical issues in some Computer-Based Test centres. Out of the 224,597 candidates who registered for the mock, 152,586 successfully sat for the examination across 989 centres nationwide.

The board disclosed that over 20 CBT centres affected by technical challenges have since been delisted.

JAMB also warned candidates against engaging with individuals or groups promising score manipulation, particularly on WhatsApp, describing such claims as fraudulent.

It added that any candidate found involved in such activities risks sanctions, including cancellation of registration or withholding of results.
