A former Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory, Jumoke Akinjide, has resigned her membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State.
In a letter addressed to the Ward 1 Chairman of Ona-Ara Local Government Area on Monday, Akinjide said her decision “was not taken lightly,” noting that she had been a party member since 2001.
The letter, titled “Letter of Resignation from the PDP,” stated: “I hereby formally give you notice of my resignation as a member of the PDP, effective immediately. I came to this difficult decision after a long period of personal reflection. I am grateful for the opportunity to have been a member of the party and for the experience and relationships built during my time as a member.”
A close associate, Alhaji Kehinde Olaosebikan, confirmed the resignation, describing it as genuine.
Akinjide served as Minister of State for the FCT from 2011 to 2015 under former President Goodluck Jonathan and briefly acted as Supervising Minister for Police Affairs in 2014. She also held advisory roles in the presidency between 2001 and 2003, including Special Assistant on FCT Matters and Special Assistant on G77 Matters and Nigerians in the Diaspora.
