The governor issued the directive during a Sallah courtesy visit by the council chairmen at Government House, insisting that effective leadership at the local level demands physical presence and constant interaction with residents.
Ahmed Aliyu said it was no longer acceptable for council chairmen to remain in the state capital while supervising affairs in their local government areas, stressing that only leaders who live among the people can fully understand their daily challenges and respond appropriately.
He urged the chairmen to adopt a hands-on approach to governance in order to improve service delivery and fast-track development across communities in the state.
To support the directive, the governor disclosed that the state government would reclaim existing official quarters where available or construct new accommodation in all 23 local government areas to ensure that chairmen and key council officials remain within their jurisdictions.
Earlier, the state chairman of Association of Local Governments of Nigeria, Abba Shehu Tambuwal, assured the governor of the chairmen’s commitment to aligning with the administration’s development agenda.
Tambuwal also pledged closer collaboration with traditional rulers, community stakeholders and security agencies to tackle grassroots challenges and sustain peace across the state.
He commended the governor’s leadership and continued support for local government administration in Sokoto.
