Shettima, Zulum witness peaceful Eid prayers in Maiduguri amid tight security

Eid-el-Fitr prayers were observed peacefully across Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, despite concerns over recent bomb explosions and attacks in the state.

Vice President Kashim Shettima joined Muslim faithful at Ramat Square Eid Ground, where the two Rakaat prayers were conducted under tight security. Governor Babagana Zulum, Deputy Governor Umar Usman Kadafur, the Shehu of Borno, Abubakar Ibn Umar Garbai Al-Amin, and other federal and state officials were also in attendance.

In his remarks, Shettima thanked God, prayed for peace, leadership, and development, and reaffirmed the federal government’s commitment to protect lives and property across the country. He also offered prayers for the souls of victims of recent attacks in Borno and other regions.

The prayers were led by Imam Shettima Saleh (Imam Idaini of Borno), who urged Muslims to pray for peace, observe Zakat al-Fitr, and consider fasting six days in Shawwal to complement Ramadan. He emphasized virtues of selflessness, discipline, unity, and generosity, calling on the faithful to uphold the values of peace and community service.

Despite restrictions on tricycles from 6 a.m. to 12 p.m., some riders resumed plying major roads immediately after the prayers.
