Saudi Arabia declares Friday for Eid-el-Fitr, Nigerians await Sultan’s announcement

Saudi Arabian authorities have announced that Eid-el-Fitr will be celebrated on Friday, March 20, 2026, following the non-sighting of the crescent moon.

The announcement was made via the HaraminInfo platform on Wednesday.

“The crescent moon has not been sighted in Saudi Arabia. Therefore, Eid Al-Fitr will be celebrated on Friday,” the statement read.

With the development, attention now shifts to Nigeria, where the official confirmation of Eid depends on the Sultan of Sokoto, who is the President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA).

The Sultan traditionally announces the end of Ramadan based on verified moon sightings across the country.

Muslims in Nigeria are therefore awaiting the Sultan’s declaration to confirm the date for the Eid-el-Fitr celebration locally.

Eid-el-Fitr marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan, a period of fasting, prayer, and reflection observed by Muslims worldwide.
