Police Unveil IG Disu’s Official Portrait Ahead of Wednesday Swearing-In

The Nigeria Police Force has unveiled the official portrait of its acting Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, ahead of his swearing-in scheduled for Wednesday.

The development was announced on Tuesday in a post on X by the Force Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin. In the released portrait, Disu was formally designated as the Inspector-General of Police.

President Bola Tinubu is expected to swear in Disu as the substantive IGP during the Federal Executive Council meeting, following the unanimous endorsement of his appointment by the Nigeria Police Council on Monday.

“The swearing-in ceremony will take place during the Federal Executive Council meeting scheduled for the same day,” the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said in a statement.

Disu’s confirmation comes barely a week after he was appointed in an acting capacity following the resignation of former IGP Kayode Egbetokun, who cited “family issues” in his resignation letter.

Born on April 13, 1966, in Lagos State, Disu joined the Nigeria Police Force on May 18, 1992, as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police. He holds qualifications in public administration, forensic investigation, criminology, security studies, legal psychology and entrepreneurship.

Before his latest appointment, he served as Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Special Protection Unit and the Force Criminal Investigation Department Annex in Lagos.

Like his predecessor, Disu previously worked under President Tinubu during his tenure as Lagos State Governor between 1999 and 2007, serving as Aide-de-Camp, while Egbetokun was Chief Security Officer.
