Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, has declared that his administration will not tolerate any conduct capable of breaching peace and security in the state, warning against the spread of falsehoods under the guise of political opposition.
The governor made the remarks while hosting heads of security agencies for Iftar, the breaking of the Ramadan fast, where he stressed that although criticism is welcome, deliberate misinformation aimed at inciting a crisis would not be condoned.
According to him, freedom of speech must not be used as a cover to spread fake news that could result in the loss of lives and property.
“Some people sit in the comfort of their homes and begin to spread rumours on social media. Freedom of speech is not a licence to cause trouble. That will not be acceptable in Kaduna State,” he said.
Uba Sani warned that his administration would, within the ambit of the law, deal with what he described as “conflict merchants” seeking to disrupt the prevailing peace for political gain.
He described Kaduna as a home to diverse tribes and religions, assuring that his government remains committed to preserving the state’s harmony and hospitality.
With the Independent National Electoral Commission set to commence party primaries in April ahead of political campaigns, the governor cautioned security agencies to remain vigilant, noting that some politicians who lose out may attempt to play the victim by spreading falsehoods to cause confusion.
To strengthen security architecture, he called for closer synergy between security agencies, local government chairmen, and traditional and religious leaders at the grassroots.
The governor added that Kaduna has not recorded any ethno-religious crisis since he assumed office, attributing the relative peace to the commitment and cooperation of security agencies. He reaffirmed that his administration remains open to strategies aimed at tackling banditry and kidnapping in the state.
