The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, on Monday declared that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has failed to draw lessons from the internal crisis rocking the opposition party, stressing that he would support President Bola Tinubu’s bid for a second term in 2027.
Wike made the remarks during his first monthly media briefing for 2026 held in Abuja.
The former Rivers State governor said his decision was based on political principles and alignment with candidates who support the current administration.
According to him, the PDP did not consult him regarding candidates being positioned by the party, a development he said influenced his political stance.
“As it stands today, my party has not learned from its challenges, and I have made it clear that I will support the President for a second term,” Wike said.
He explained that while he remains a member of the PDP, his support would be directed at individuals — irrespective of party affiliation — who align with President Tinubu’s policies and leadership.
“I never said I would support a particular party. What I said clearly is that I will support candidates who are in support of Mr President, no matter the platform they belong to,” he added.
Wike further dismissed suggestions that his position amounts to working against his party, insisting that his political decisions are transparent and consistent with his earlier declarations.
The minister’s comments come amid ongoing internal disputes within the PDP and growing political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
