Disu Orders CPs to Tighten Security Amid Rising Middle East Tensions

Acting Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, has directed all commissioners of police (CPs) nationwide to intensify security measures following escalating tensions in the Middle East.

A statement by Benjamin Hundeyin, Force Public Relations Officer, said the directive is part of proactive efforts to prevent any local fallout from international developments.

Disu assured Nigerians of the police’s “unwavering commitment” to safeguarding lives, property, and national peace, stressing that Nigeria remains stable and its security situation firmly under control.

The acting IGP specifically called on CPs in the North-West, North-East, and North-Central zones to enhance surveillance, gather intelligence, work closely with traditional and religious leaders, increase police visibility around worship centres and public spaces, and promptly address any attempt to exploit global events for unrest or sectarian tension.

He warned that Nigeria would not be used as a theatre for foreign conflicts and stressed that any effort to import external ideological or religious disputes would be met with the full force of the law.

Disu also urged community leaders to promote peaceful coexistence, while advising citizens to remain calm, vigilant, and law-abiding, reporting suspicious activities to the nearest police formation.
