US Lawmaker Urges Trump to Intervene Over Attacks on Nigerian Christians

A United States Congressman, Rep. Riley Moore, has called on the Trump administration to take decisive action over the persistent attacks on Christians in Nigeria, warning that the religious group continues to bear the brunt of violent assaults in the country.
Speaking on Thursday about escalating insecurity in Nigeria, Moore acknowledged that all Nigerians are affected by violence but stressed that Christians are disproportionately targeted. He claimed that they are five times more likely to be killed compared to other religious groups, pointing fingers at Fulani militias and terrorist organizations.
“Violence and insecurity affect people of all faiths, but Christians have suffered in silence for over two decades. Pastors and priests are frequently targeted, schools and churches are burnt, often on holy days, and tens of thousands have been killed,” Moore said.
The lawmaker commended former President Donald Trump for his global stance in defending Christians, describing the current period as a unique opportunity to deepen US–Nigeria relations while addressing the security crisis.
“President Trump’s readiness to defend Christians worldwide presents a once-in-a-generation chance to strengthen ties between our nations and confront this crisis directly,” he added.
Moore also urged the Nigerian government to act decisively, emphasizing that the administration of President Bola Tinubu must demonstrate stronger political will to tackle insecurity.
